PEDESTRIAN BARRIERS

While ensuring safety on the road, Safebarrier International Private Limited is equally committed to providing safety systems for pedestrians. Our time tested pedestrian barriers are in much use and demand in many countries.

Mainly manufactured conforming to customised designs, our pedestrian barriers are made from tubes, hollow sections and plates and are galvanised against corrosion. The barriers come in a ready erect state and all that the end user has to do is to install them using the post and vertical members after fixing the anchor bolts.

The Company by offering Pedestrian barriers along with Crash barriers and end terminals ensures that almost all customer needs are met at one go.

The Company is a leading provider of pedestrian barriers for the safety for the pedestrians using the sidewalks. Our pedestrian barriers are in much demand in many countries. These barriers are mainly installed at busy crossings and at high traffic locations for complete access control. The Company manufactures standardized pedestrian barriers in a completely knockdown state consisting of Posts with or without base plate and panels. These can be easily assembled at site. However pedestrian barriers as per customer specific requirements can also be manufactured.

The barriers consist of

• S HS post with 10/20 mm base plate
• S HS sections and RHS sections for panel frames
• Circular of square bars for intermediate support

PARAPETS

The Company also offers steel parapets for highways. These parapets are mainly manufactured conforming to customer specifications and range from hollow sections to solid sections.

The Company also provides steel parapets for bridges and special locations. These parapets can be 2 layer or 3 layer based on the specific requirement. Our steel parapets are usually made of SHS (Square hollow sections) and RHS (rectangular hollow sections) for rigidity and elegance. The horizontal layers of the parapet are usually joined with sleeves.

Our parapets are usually installed above the concrete barriers on bridges and culverts. The Company manufactures standardized parapets in a completely knockdown state consisting of Posts and rails which can be easily assembled at site. However, parapets as per specific customer design and requirements can also be supplied.

Barriers in this category conform to in material specification which have been followed prior to the introduction of the performance based barriers. In general, material specifications are detailed on chemical and mechanical properties of W beams, posts, spacers, fasteners and on galvanising coating.

Primary differences between the Performance barriers and barriers in this category, as the name indicates is that barriers in this category are purely material based, and are not performance based.

UNTENSIONED CORRUGATED BARRIERS

A complete range of untensioned barriers is available on offer by us all over the world in countries where such systems are still being followed.

These systems are manufactured in conformance to the relevant specifications (Chemical & Mechanical characteristics) that are followed in respective countries. These systems in general follow the American AASHTO M 180 standards and/or the British BS 6579 specifications.

All bolts, nuts and washers supplied along with the system include splice joint connections, beam spacer connections if applicable and post to spacer connections. As per customer requirements, these are supplied in the following grades:

Reflectors as required and as per Client specifications are made available to customers along with the system.

TENSIONED CORRUGATED BARRIERS

Tensioned Corrugated are barriers which use a tensioned assembly to keep the barriers as one tensioned band. The Company manufactures such systems to cater to many customers in these countries.

The essential parts of the system include

• W Beams (Standard & Adjusters)
• Z Post
• Adjuster assembly
• S HS End posts
• Reinforcing rods and rings
• Fasteners

All materials are to conform to S 275 JR or equivalent. The functionality of the system lies in the tensioning of the whole system which has to be adhered to in all standard conditions. As a thumb rule, for all Installations, these general steps must be enforced for proper functioning of the barrier.

Tensioning between any two limits shall not proceed until the Engineer is satisfied that each limit is anchored sufficiently secured to resist the load effects due to tensioning.

Anchorages shall be established at a distance of 140m (by section), in which both ends shall be fixed tightly in order to move during the process of tensioning.

Tensioning shall be undertaken only when the ambient temperature is between 250C and 50C and shall proceed as follows:

• Beam overlap bolts (splice bolts) and nuts at beam connections shall have been tightened as described in sub clause and all longitudinal clearance between bolts and slotted holes shall have been removed before tensioning is commenced.
• Bolts and nuts securing beams to posts and adjuster bolts and nuts shall be loosely assembled by hand tightening. Adjuster assemblies shall be located not more than 70.5m apart and each installation shall incorporate at least one adjuster assembly.
• Anchor bolts and nuts at both anchor positions shall be tightened until the adjacent posts maintain their alignment without sign of vertical movement. Lock nuts shall be tightened to a torque of 140/160Nm.
• Commencing at the adjuster assembly to one limit, adjuster nuts shall be tightened to a torque 380/420Nm. The nuts shall then be slackened and retightened to the appropriate torque.
• The procedure shall be repeated at all adjuster assemblies sequentially along the length of the fence.
• Bolts and nuts securing beams to posts shall be tightened to a torque of 15/20Nm.
• On completion of tensioning, the center of each bolt securing beams to posts shall be no closer than 25mm ±2mm to the end of the slotted hole in the beam.

The barrier system shall be erected to present a flowing alignment. The alignment plan must not exceed ±30mm in a 10m length.

Barriers in this category include simulated and subsequently crash tested barriers in select test houses which are designed and proven to restrain vehicles based on, mass of vehicle ranging from a 900 kg car to a 38 Ton truck, speed of vehicle, incidence angle, and other parameters. The general criteria for these barriers include :
